Our sincere appreciation also goes to our supervisor ABSTRACT The overall aim of this study is to evaluate the Need for Internet Service in Facilitating the Effectiveness of Training Today's Secretary: A Case Study of University of Ilorin. The method of data collection adopted for the study is questionnaire. Based on the data collected through these sources, a detailed analysis is given to the research questions. A sample size of fifty (50) was secretary selected randomly and administered as questionnaires, all the questionnaires was completely filled and valid for the analysis of the study. The researcher concluded that while internet services are being utilized to some extent, there is significant room for improvement in terms of access, infrastructure, and the integration of digital skills training into the curriculum. Also, confirmed that secretarial training programs that effectively incorporate internet services can lead to more proficient, versatile, and competitive secretaries who are well-equipped to meet the demands of the modern workplace. However, I recommended the university should invest in improving its internet infrastructure to ensure consistent and reliable connectivity across the campus. This includes upgrading bandwidth, expanding Wi-Fi coverage, and ensuring that computer labs and training centers have access to high-speed internet. Also, enhance its e-learning platforms to make them more user-friendly and accessible which include providing technical support, regular updates, and training on how to use these platforms effectively. The efficiency and effectiveness of secretarial duties now heavily rely on the ability to access and utilize various digital resources. The internet, as a global network, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the skills and productivity of secretaries by providing them with access to a vast array of information, training materials, and communication tools. Tools of information and communication technology (ICT) such as internet services have drastically turned the world into a global village. As a global network connecting millionsof computers, the internet makes communication and information easy and speedy across nations of the world irrespective of geographical distance. Apart from transforming and facilitating the flow of information across the world, the use of internet has also caused drastic changes in virtually all spheres of human endeavours. Modern business office environment relies significantly on internet services and this has made secretaries to be listed as one of the professionals that make extensive use of internet services in the dispense of their duties. The internet offers a lot of tools and services (components) that have proven to ease the job performance of secretaries and impart on their performance significantly. The internet offers features or online services such as e-mailing, internet relay chat, file transfer protocol (FTP), Usenet, intranet, telnet, hosting, search engines, and world wide web which are often explored by modern secretaries in the performance of their occupational duties. The Internet has revolutionized the way the world business offices are operated on both local and global level. The modern office has changed dramatically since the 1990. Secretaries in today’s society are transmitting information via electronic mail (e-mail), electronic calendars, and teleconferencing, as well as other electronic devices. Communication via technology is just as important as oral and written communication in the work environment. Technology continues to play a vital role in transforming the business environment. The backbone of technology is the local area network (LAN), a single-site computer network, or the wide area network (WAN), which supports worldwide work groups. Both of these networks provide tools for users such as secretaries to transmit data, graphics, mail, and voice across the network. LANs and WANs enable distributed work teams to complete projects using groupware and decision support systems. E-mail is one of the most popular internet services used in business offices today. E-mail has come to occupy a special niche in daily secretarial activities as an important communication tool. Its speed ease and relatively low cost has led to its adoption by many organizations and secretarial staff. With e-mailing software and a functional access to the internet, secretaries are able to send electronic mails to offices within and outside the organization.
